PABX Systems, also known as EPABX or PBX, are widely used now a days in offices, hotels, various industries. Where there is requirement of intra-office communication between departments or otherwise, PABX is a must. No modern office can be thought of without PABX.
There are many benefits for having a PABX in a office. The nature of benefits may vary from one industry to another. I am trying to list some benefits which may be applicable across any industries : :-
1. Sharing of resources
One of the major benefit of having PABX is sharing of telecom resources. Normally, any office has few PSTN ( Public switched telephone network) lines which needs to be shared among many people in the office. PABX systems help sharing those limited number of PSTN connections. PABX has PSTN connectivity at one end, and many extension lines at the other end, which are given to many persons, various rooms, tables.
When outsiders can call up those PSTN numbers and reach any extension directly or by help of an operator. Employees can also make outgoing calls from his chair directly by accessing PSTN line from his extension or through an operator.
2. Internal Office calls and Call transferring
All in the office can talk to each other on using the PBX. Previously, people used a bell and used to kick around an office peon to call some one. Now with PABX, any one can call anyone. Calls can be transferred to another person.
3. PBX features
Now a days, PBX has many features like call forwarding, alarms, remainders etc. These are very useful for reminding any meetings or appointments. Voicemail, IVR systems, least cost routing (LCR) etc. which not only increases efficiency and output in office, but also reduces expenses.
PBX are particularly useful in hotel industries. It is an added feature for guests who can make calls, order room service etc.
