What is PLCC ( Power Line Carrier Communication ) ?
PLCC ( Power Line Carrier Communication ), also known as power line carrier (PLC), power line telecom (PLT), power line networking (PLN) or Power line Digital Subscriber Line (PDSL), mains communication, is a communication system which uses power transmission lines as main backbone.

PLCC PABX

There are nation wide wiring arrangements for distributing power across country and these wires are normally used for transmission of electricity. PLCC aims to use these wires for transmission of data and voice simultaneously as well.

Since power lines are being used for communication, so it was natural that there would be PABX systems which will have connectivity to PLCC equipments. Normally, any PABX can be connected to PLCC equipments ( majorly PLCC Modem) through its trunk lines/ E1/T1 link. But the EPABX needs to have safety features built in to protect itself from any failure of the PLCC equipments as any such failure may not only damage the PABX, but also pose a safety hazards to its users.

Many manufacturer provide support for interfacing PLCC equipments. And there are few PBX manufacturer who sell their PABX as PLCC based telephone exchange too. For example, Matrix Telecom Solutions has specific PLCC EPABX with the name of ETERNITY PLCC SWITCH. Coral Telecom has DX2000 machine which has connectivity with PLCC modem for wide area networking over large geographical areas by connecting multiple DX2000 or other PBX systems.

PBX with PLCC equipment support are useful products which could be used to utilise the electricity transmission lines across a country. Recently, these transmission lines are being used for providing internet bandwidth apart from voice communication. Most probably, this could be a niche market for PBX manufacturer. Electricity and power distribution companies could utilise PLCC PABX for alternative revenue source by providing various voice and data networking services.
